The Singapore International Graduate Award (SINGA) is a collaboration between the Agency for Science, Technology & Research (A*STAR), the Nanyang Technological University (NTU), the National University of Singapore (NUS), the Singapore University of Technology and Design (SUTD) and the Singapore Management University (SMU).

PhD training is carried out in English at a student’s chosen lab at A*STAR research institutes and NTU/NUS/SUTD/SMU. Upon successful completion, students are conferred a PhD degree by either NTU, NUS, SUTD or SMU.

ELIGIBILITY

  • Open for application to all international graduates with a passion for research and excellent academic results
    Note: SINGA is meant primarily for international students studying for the primary time in Singapore. Singaporeans, Singapore Permanent Residents and International students studying/who’ve studied in Singapore tertiary institutions should not eligible.
  • Good skills in written and spoken English
  • Good reports from academic referees

The above eligibility criteria should not exhaustive.
A*STAR may include additional selection criteria based on prevailing scholarship policies. These policies could also be amended every now and then without warning.

COVERAGE

The award provides support for as much as 4 years of PhD studies including:

  • Tuition fees
  • Monthly stipend of S$2,700 which can be increased to S$3,200 after the passing of the Qualifying Examination*
  • One-time airfare grant of as much as S$1,500
  • One-time settling-in allowance of S$1,000

* These rates are only applicable to awardees starting their PhDs from the January 2024 intake onwards.
 Priority for on-campus accommodation is frequently given to first 12 months students.

  2. Documents Required
    Do prepare the next documents upfront before applying.
    Note: Do NOT mail any hard copy documents to SINGA Office. All needed documents are to be submitted online.a. Valid Passport
    b. A recent passport-sized photo (in .jpeg or .png format)
  3. Transcripts & Reports
    ALL transcripts must be in English translation

Mandatory

  • Bachelor’s and/or Master’s academic transcripts.
  • Bachelor’s Degree certificate(s) / scroll(s) or a letter of certification from the university in your candidature in case your degree certificate / scroll has not yet been conferred.
  • 2 suggestion reports (to be accomplished and submitted online by the referees).
  • Applicants applying to NUS supervisors/projects are required to submit your GRE scores in your SINGA application form.
  • For all other applicants, it’s possible you’ll be requested by the university to submit satisfactory GRE scores as a part of the university admission requirement.
  • The submission of IELTS / TOEFL / SAT I & II / GATE results is optional and should be requested later by the university for admission.

  1. Please make sure that the knowledge you provide during account registration in the applying portal is accurate, as the knowledge can be used for verification upon your first log-in.

  3. Please do NOT mail any hard copy documents to the SINGA Office.
  4. Please submit your applications as early as possible. This will provide ample time to your referees to submit their online suggestion reports before the applying deadline, as only applications with 2 suggestion reports can be processed.
  5. Please check and make sure that all data you could have entered in the net application form is correct and accurate before you submit the applying. Amendments to the applying will NOT be possible after it’s submitted.
