The Tongarewa Scholarships have a good time the University’s commitment to our international student community. We award a spread of these scholarships to international students every year. This is a partial fee-based scholarship that may go towards tuition fees for one 12 months of study. Applicants will be either entering their first 12 months of an undergraduate degree or entering a postgraduate degree programme at Victoria University of Wellington.

Scholarships are awarded competitively on the premise of academic excellence. They apply to check within the 12 months following application and might be credited to tuition fees. Shortlisted candidates could also be requested to supply additional information to support their application. Recipients of these scholarships are guaranteed a proposal of a spot in a single of our Halls of Residence, provided an accommodation application is received by University Accommodation Wellington by their deadline.

Eligibility

Applicants should be:

  • international students who’re paying full international fees
  • entering their first 12 months of an undergraduate degree or entering a postgraduate degree.

You are not eligible for this scholarship if you happen to:

  • accomplished your secondary education at a New Zealand school
  • accomplished the English for Academic Purposes (EAP) or Foundation Studies Programme
  • are a Study Abroad or Twinning student from one of our overseas partner universities
  • are in your second 12 months of study in the identical degree programme at Victoria University of Wellington.

Scholarship specific documentation

The following documentation should be provided as part of your online scholarship application:

Selection process

Selection might be made by a panel made up of appropriate Wellington University International staff.

Additional information

These scholarships are for partial fees. These scholarships might be credited to tuition fees after the ultimate withdrawal date for the courses of the trimester the recipient(s) have been awarded for (roughly two weeks in to the trimester).

Regulations and conditions

  3. The Scholarship can’t be deferred to a later 12 months.
  4. The Scholarship could also be held together with other awards.
  5. Should the recipient withdraw from Victoria University of Wellington through the tenure of this scholarship or fail to realize a satisfactory progress, partial repayment of the Scholarship will normally be expected. Recipients must advise the Scholarships Office in the event that they intend to withdraw.
  6. Recipients are expected to act as Ambassadors for Victoria University of Wellington and take part in appropriate events or marketing if requested.
  7. At the discretion of the Deciding Authority, the appliance of the terms and conditions of the Scholarship could also be modified in special circumstances or to avoid hardship to any candidate for the Scholarship.
